COLOURLOCK Leather Colouring Preparation Set - prepare and protect a leather colouring process

The COLOURLOCK Leather Colouring Preparation Set combines products for preparation, priming, final coating and subsequent care of suitable leather surfaces. It supports the colour build-up but does not replace a separately matched leather colour.

Degreaser removes grease and old care residue. Leather Primer improves adhesion of the subsequent leather colour. After colouring, Top Coat Matt forms the protective finish. Leather Shield and Leather Care provide surface protection and conditioning.

Benefits and use

  • System for preparation, priming, finish, protection and care
  • Degreaser creates a grease-free repair surface
  • Leather Primer improves adhesion of the leather colour
  • Top Coat Matt, Leather Shield and Leather Care complete the colour system

Application

  1. Identify the leather type and test every product on a hidden area first.
  2. Clean and dry the surface, then degrease it carefully with Degreaser.
  3. Apply Leather Primer thinly and allow it to dry according to its instructions.
  4. Build up a separately matched leather colour professionally and protect it with Top Coat Matt.
  5. After complete curing, use Leather Shield or Leather Care according to age and wear.

Suitable for and important notes

For pigmented, surface-coloured smooth leather on vehicle seats, bolsters, steering wheels, door panels and other suitable surfaces.

Important: A separately matched leather colour is required. Strictly follow the safety, mixing and application instructions for each component.

COLOURLOCK Leather Colouring Preparation Set - detailed application instructions

Preparation

  • This preparation set contains Degreaser, Leather Primer, Top Coat Matt, Leather Shield and Leather Care. A matching leather colour, cleaner, abrasive material, spray equipment and the Crosslinker specified for Top Coat are not automatically included.
  • Before starting, assess the leather type, damage and stability of the existing coating. The system is intended for surface-coloured smooth leather and professional repair work.
  • Obtain the matching leather colour and all separately required system products in advance. For Top Coat, follow the current product and Crosslinker instructions, including mixing ratio and processing window.
  • Wear protective gloves, eye protection and suitable respiratory protection, provide good ventilation and carefully mask adjacent parts.
  • Test all system steps on a hidden spot. Commission a specialist for large-area colouring or an unknown coating.

Step-by-step application

  1. Clean the leather thoroughly with a suitable cleaner required separately. Remove cleaner residue and allow the surface to dry fully.
  2. If required, smooth rough areas with a separately required Sanding Pad using low pressure. Completely remove sanding dust.
  3. Apply the solvent-free Degreaser to a clean cloth and thoroughly degrease the repair area. Allow it to dry completely and use an adhesive-tape test to check for remaining grease.
  4. Apply Leather Primer thinly and evenly, preferably with a suitable spray gun on professional areas. Dose according to absorption on porous spots.
  5. Allow Primer to dry completely.
  6. Build the separately obtained matching leather colour in several thin coats according to its product instructions, allowing each coat to dry fully.
  7. Mix Top Coat Matt with the specified, separately required Crosslinker according to the current manufacturer instructions. Do not infer your own mixing ratio.
  8. Apply Top Coat thinly and evenly with a suitable spray gun as the clear protective layer. Avoid thick wet coats and build-up.
  9. Allow the complete coating system to dry or cure fully. The current times on the products used take priority.
  10. Use Leather Care sparingly for later maintenance only after complete curing.
  11. After complete curing, apply Leather Shield thinly to suitable high-wear areas as additional use protection. It does not replace Top Coat.

Aftercare and maintenance

  • Record mixtures, colour, batches and process steps for future repairs.
  • Do not use, bend, clean or condition the repaired area during curing.
  • Perform later cleaning and conditioning gently and only on a fully dry surface.

Important information

  • Top Coat Matt is intended for professional spray application. Crosslinker and matching leather colour are required separately unless explicitly supplied in addition.
  • Leather Care and Leather Shield are aftercare and use protection, not substitutes for Primer, leather colour or Top Coat.
  • Follow the labels and safety data sheets for every component. Do not inhale aerosols or vapour.
  • Leather Care may be fatal if swallowed and enters the airways and may cause an allergic skin reaction. If swallowed, immediately call a poison centre or doctor and do not induce vomiting.
